FORT WORTH, TX: The Texas Wesleyan University men's soccer team (1-2) came out on the wrong end of an 8-2 decision against Florida National University at Martin Field on Friday.
The Rams stayed in the game in the first half. The home team surrendered goals to Calvin Louback and Leonardo Rodriguez in the 13th and 24th minutes. Then in the 31st minute,
Alejandro Rey played a corner kick that bounced around in the box and came out to
Micah Day who finished his second goal of the season.
Matheus Eccard got that goal back five minutes later, and the Conquistadors led 3-1 at the break.
FNU rattled off four unanswered goals in the first 13 minutes of the second half to put the game well out of reach.
Preston Baker drew a foul in the box in the 67th minute and converted the ensuing penalty kick for Texas Wesleyan's second goal. FNU's Gabriel Miranda capped the scoring at 8-2 in the 80th minute.
For the game, the Conquistadors outshot the Rams 21-16. Corner kicks favored Texas Wesleyan 11-10, and fouls favored Florida National 17-5.
The Rams will return to action on Friday, September 9, when they travel to West Palm Beach, FL, to take on Keiser University. That game is scheduled for a 12:00 p.m. (CDT) start.
