Game Recap: Women's Basketball |

No. 7 Stars Down Lady Rams, 91-65

FORT WORTH, TX: The Texas Wesleyan University women's basketball team (11-7, 4-4 SAC) took a 91-65 loss to seventh ranked Oklahoma City University (16-2, 7-1 SAC) at the Sid Richardson Center on Saturday.

The Stars shot 56 percent for the game and used their length to take an advantage on the defensive side that resulted in a very difficult uphill fight for the Lady Rams.

OCU wasted no time, methodically taking a 17-2 lead that ate up the first six minutes of the ball game. Alycia Louallen broke the offensive silence by draining a triple with a defender in her face. That led to a Falesha Fuller layup with the foul, making it a 19-10 game. The Stars got two back before the opening quarter ended for a 21-10 advantage.

The Rams shot just 28 percent in the second quarter, while Oklahoma City shot 62 percent. The Stars pushed the lead to 20 after an Allison Frey three-pointer to make it 34-14 midway through. Katelynn Threats worked inside and dropped in a pair of free throws to cut the lead to 34-21, capping a 7-0 rally. The Stars kept Wesleyan at bay and nursed a 41-25 lead at the break.

TXWES found a rhythm in the second half, starting with a 10-3 run that sliced the lead to 46-35. The Stars stayed red hot from the field though, pouring in nine points in just over a minute of game time to push the lead back out to 57-39. The lead crept further and further away from Wesleyan, taking a 65-44 deficit into the final quarter.

The two teams went shot for shot most of the rest of the way, but good perimeter shooting from OCU made sure the lead was never in jeopardy in the 91-65 win.

Threats led the Rams with 18 points and eight rebounds. Entering the game today, Threats ranks 7th in the nation in defensive rebounds with 7.91, 8th in total rebounds with 186, and ninth in rebounds per game with 10.94. Her 1,187 career points so far this season has put her 7th All-Time at Wesleyan.

Bailey Broadnax posted 13 points and seven boards. Louallen added eight points. Ashlie Bruner and Fuller each finished with seven points.

The Lady Rams will take a beat before hosting Arlington Baptist College on Monday, January 23. That game is set for a 4:30 pm start at the Sid Richardson Center.
