FORT WORTH, TX: The Texas Wesleyan University Women's Soccer Team (11-2, 5-1 SAC) steamrolled to a 6-1 Sooner Athletic Conference win over Southwestern Assemblies of God University (7-7, 3-3 SAC) at Martin Field Tuesday evening to stretch their current winning streak to five games.
Sophomore forward McKenzie Dyer produced her first career hat-trick, after bookending Texas Wesleyan's attack.
Dyer got the scoring started with an assist from Samantha Moore in the 13th minute. In the 23rd minute, Katelynn Teufel cleaned up a corner kick for a second goal, and in the 30th minute Moore drilled a free kick from 25 yards out to push the score to 3-0.
Dyer headed in a Tameir Grosvenor corner kick just over 10 minutes into the second half, before SAGU finally got on the board with a goal from Nadine Jaimes in the 56th minute.
In the 72nd minute, Taylor Ross took on a SAGU defender and the goalkeeper and knocked in her 11th goal of the season. Forty seconds later, Dyer capped off her hat trick with an unassisted goal.
The Rams outshot the Lions 19-11 and led 4-1 in corner kicks. Christy Zwart (10-1) and Lauren Bond combined to make three saves for the Rams, while Sarah Palmer did the same for SAGU.
Texas Wesleyan will return to action on Friday, when they travel to Chickasha, OK, to take on No. 22 University of Science & Arts. That game is scheduled for a 5 p.m. start.
Ramblings
- Dyer had two multi-goal games coming into Tuesday's contest. She posted two goals and an assist at Texas College.
- Grosvenor was held scoreless for the third time this season, but did notch an assist, giving her at least one point in 12 of her 13 collegiate games played.
- Texas Wesleyan's five-game winning streak matches a season high. During their current streak, they have outscored their opponents 17-3.
- Texas Wesleyan is now 28-12-5 all-time in SAC play and 12-0 against SAGU. Science & Arts leads the all-time series 8-3-2.
