Drovers Down Rams in SAC Semifinals

CHICKASHA, OK:  The Texas Wesleyan University women's soccer team (14-4) saw a terrific season come to a close as the University of Science & Arts (16-3-1) rode a big second half to a 5-1 win in the Sooner Athletic Conference Semifinals Tuesday evening.

Thais Silva staked the Drovers to an early lead when she scored just seven minutes into the game.  In the 20th minute, Taylor Ross fed McKenzie Dyer for an equalizer.

Just before the intermission, USAO's Kylie Pyle found the net with an assist from Cristina Ramos, and USAO led 2-1 at the break.

In the second half, Lindsey Daugherty scored in the 51st minute and then put the game away with another goal in the 55th minute.

The loss was a disappointing end to a highly successful season for the Lady Rams.  The 2017 squad was the highest scoring team in the history of the program.  Their 84 goals and 211 points topped the previous records of 80 goals and 206 points set in 2009.  That high-scoring offense led to 14 wins, just one shy of the program's single season record of 15 set in 2011.

The team went 8-2 in conference play, finishing third in the SAC standings, while they reached the SAC Tournament semifinals for the fourth time in five years of membership.

The future is bright for this team.  The squad featured four seniors, while their four All-Conference selections include a sophomore (Christy Zwart) and two freshmen (Tameir Grosvenor and Savannah Hart).

Ramblings

- Tameir Grosvenor's 23 goals ranks fourth on Texas Wesleyan's single-season scoring record while her 52 points rank third in school history.

- The Rams are now 4-5 all-time in SAC Tournament play.  USAO leads the all-time series 10-3-2.
