FORT WORTH, TX: The 11th ranked Texas Wesleyan University men's basketball team (23-6) is set to host a Sooner Athletic Conference Quarterfinal contest against Mid-America Christian University (16-14) Tuesday night in the
Sid Richardson Center.
The game is scheduled for a 7:00 p.m. tip-off. General admission is $10, students from SAC member institutions are $7 (with ID), children and Texas Wesleyan students, faculty and staff (with ID) are free. The game will also be carried live on
RamSports.net/Live.
The SAC Tournament is a single elimination bracket featuring the league's top eight teams. Quarterfinal contests are hosted by the higher seed, while the semifinal and final rounds will be hosted by Oklahoma City University Friday and Saturday. The tournament champion will receive an automatic bid to the NAIA National Championship in Kansas City, MO, March 15-21.
Texas Wesleyan, as the SAC Regular Season Champion is the top seed in the tournament. In a testament to the strength of the conference, MACU (the defending NAIA National Champion) is the 8th seed.
The SAC's top six teams were separated by just three games in the conference standings, but the Rams topped the pack for their second consecutive regular season title. MACU and John Brown were tied at six games behind Texas Wesleyan's pace.
MACU leads the all-time series with Texas Wesleyan 6-2. They are the only team to have swept the season series from Texas Wesleyan this season.
In two meetings this season, the Evangels clipped Texas Wesleyan 91-90 and 95-92. In those contests,
Dion Rogers averaged 21.5 points per game. Four other Rams averaged double-figures in scoring including
Naiel Smith who averaged 11 points, 11 assists, and 8.5 rebounds per game. Devonse Reed led the Evangels in those games at 20.5 points per game.
