Rams Take Series from Ottawa 3-1: Split Saturday Doubleheader

FORT WORTH, TX:  The Texas Wesleyan University baseball team (3-1) split a doubleheader with Ottawa University (1-3) at Sycamore Park on Saturday.  The Rams clinched the four-game series with a 2-1 win in game one before the Braves took the finale 7-3.

Evan Rogers (Jr. Martinsbug, WV) got the start and made his Texas Wesleyan debut in game one.  After striking out a pair in the first inning, he allowed a run to cross on a wild pitch in the second.

Luis Roman led off the bottom of the third with a double, took third on a ball in the dirt, and scored on a wild pitch.  Aidan Laurini then singled, and the Rams took the lead with an RBI groundout from Blake Seaton.

Rogers (1-0) turned in five solid innings, allowing a run on five hits and a walk while striking out five.  Wade Regas notched his first save of the season working two scoreless innings and allowing just one hit.

Roman led the Rams at the plate collecting two of the team's six hits.

In game two, Roman got the start on the mound.  The senior from Ponce, Puerto Rico, worked around some control issues, surrendering four walks and two hit batters in two innings.  However he did not allow a hit or a run and exited with the Rams leading 2-0.
The Braves kept the pressure on, advancing a runner to scoring position in all but the final frame.  Ottawa picked up an unearned run on an RBI single from Hecmart Nieves in the fourth.

In the fifth, Parker Robinson induced a 6-4-3 double play to get out of a bases-loaded one-out situation.  However, things unraveled in the sixth.  Ottawa sent 11 men to the plate and scored six runs on six hits to open a 7-2 advantage.

Two walks and two hit batters gave the Rams one run back in the bottom of the sixth.  Alex Gudac recorded the RBI when he was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded and two-out.

David Mead (1-0) earned the win after allowing three runs on six hits in five innings of work.  Robinson (0-1) took the loss after being tagged for six runs on five hits in 1.1 innings.

Blake Seaton was 2-for-4 in the loss.

The Rams will return to action next week with a three-game series against Jarvis Christian College.  Friday's opener is scheduled for a 2:00 p.m. start at Sycamore Park.  Saturday's double-header is set for a 2:00 p.m. first-pitch as well.
