Lady Rams Split SAC Opener With MACU

FORT WORTH, TX: The Texas Wesleyan University softball team (13-8, 1-1 SAC) split a double header with Mid-America Christian University (6-12, 1-1 SAC) in the Sooner Athletic Conference opener at Sycamore Park on Friday.

In game one, the Evangels posted scored a pair in the first inning on a Hannah Harris RBI double in the left-center gap and scored on the play after a throwing error.

The Lady Rams got one back on after a Kayla Prachyl lead-off double allowed Samantha Vasquez to drive a run home on a ground out.

MACU added two more in the fifth after taking advantage of an early inning error that led to a bases loaded fielder's choice RBI before Harris plated a run for a 4-1 advantage.
The Lady Rams got the tying run to the plate in the seventh, but the MACU lead held at 4-1 for the final.

In the second game, the Lady Rams opened scoring on a tactically executed double steal that led to a Prachyl RBI slap shot for a 2-0 edge. Texas Wesleyan was awarded with an insurance run in the third after taking advantage of two Evangel errors.

MACU cut the lead to just a run in the sixth inning with a line drive, two run home run off the bat of Tiphani Napier, but the Lady Rams got the run back. Demi Dotson led off the home side with a chopper through the left side of the infield, stole second, and later scored on another Prachyl RBI.

Lauren Wernet (6-2) and the Lady Rams shut down their opponent in the seventh to secure the 4-2 win. Wernet went the distance, allowing two runs on three hits. She conceded two walks, while striking out four in the win.

The Lady Rams will take on the University of Science and Arts Oklahoma tomorrow in a double header starting at noon at Sycamore Park.
