Rams 1-1 In Day 2 of SAC Tourney, Eliminate WBU With 13-7 Win.

CHICKASHA, OK: The 13th ranked Texas Wesleyan University baseball team (43-12) snapped a 15-game win streak in a 9-1 loss to No.19 University of Science & Arts (41-13) before getting back on track with a 13- 7 win over Wayland Baptist University (23-28) at Bill Smith Field on Saturday.

The Texas Wesleyan bats were subdued to start the day, but exploded for 13 runs on 14 hits to end it.

The Drovers were the visiting team in the scorebook, but enjoyed the game in their home stadium and posted a 3-0 lead by putting up a run in each of the first three frames. Christian Perez doubled in the first to set up a Randy Ventura RBI groundout before Kennial Rivera homered in the second. Perez added a home run in the third to establish the modest lead.

USAO grew the lead and would score in every inning but the fourth and sixth, while holding the Rams to a pair of hits. Kiki Menedez and Alex Gudac posted lead-off singles in the second and third, but Drovers starter Jose Hildalgo stifled the Ram offense.

Caden Williams broke up the shutout in the ninth with solo blast, but the Ram fell 9-1 to the host team.

Stephen Yancey (9-4) suffered the loss. Yancey worked seven innings, allowing six runs, although only four were earned. He scattered 10 hits, issued a pair of walks, and struck out three.

In the round two quarter-final game, the Pioneers were seeking redemption from a 9-5 loss to Rams in opening SAC tournament game.

The Pioneers grabbed a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first, but the Ram offense came alive with a four run third. Blake Seaton opened scoring with a RBI double before Caden Williams traded places with another RBI double. Kiki Menedez added two more with a smash over the wall in left for a 4-1 advantage.

Wayland Baptist could not wait to answer though, matching the Rams with a four-run rally in the bottom of the inning. Hector Romero started the rally with a RBI double before Gabi DeLaCruz homered to put the Pioneers on top 5-4.

TXWES found their stride though, adding three more in the fourth for a two-run lead. Seaton added two on a bases-loaded double before Williams hit a RBI sacrifice fly to center to make it a 7-5 ball game.

WBU took advantage of a pair of mishaps to tie the game in the fifth. One run scored on an errant throw before the second scored on a RBI groundout to make a 7-7 game.

The two teams played a scoreless sixth before the Rams took control in the seventh. Seaton and Williams struck again, this time with back-to-back power home runs. Casey Moses capped the run with a RBI sacrifice.

Texas Wesleyan tacked on three more in the top of the ninth for good measure. Garrett Crook knocked in a pair on a pinch hit single, and Moses scored another in a base hit for a 13-7 lead that would be the eventual final.

Wade Regas (4-1) picked up the win for the Rams with six innings of relief work. The senior allowed a pair of runs (none earned) on two hits, had no walks, and fanned five in a solid outing.

Seaton led the Rams in a 3 for 5 game with four RBI and a home run. Williams was 2 for 4 with three RBI and a homer. Menendez went 2 for 4 with a pair of RBI and a home run.

The Rams will look to double-dip the Drovers to advance to the SAC championship game. The semi-final game is set for 2:00 p.m. tomorrow, with the "if necessary" game scheduled for 6:00 p.m. at Bill Smith Park.
