FORT WORTH, TX: The Texas Wesleyan University women's soccer team (4-1) put double-figures on the board for the second time in three games, rolling to a 10-2 win over Paul Quinn College (1-2) at Martin Field on Thursday.
Tameir Grosvenor put in four of the ten goals. The freshman from DeSoto, TX, has recorded 11 goals in her first five collegiate games while scoring at least one goal in all five games. Meanwhile
Samantha Moore and
Taylor Ross both scored a pair of goals on Thursday.
Ross found the net just 25 seconds into the game with a quick assist from Moore. Ross and Grosvenor both netted a pair in the first half to stake the Rams to a 4-0 lead at the intermission.
The Rams struck quickly again in the second half. This time it was Moore scoring just seconds into the period.
Savannah Hart, a freshman from LaPorte, TX, scored her first collegiate goal in the 69th minute and senior defender
Mattie Morris scored her first of the season in the 82nd minute.
Paul Quinn got goals off a corner kick by Amy Joya in the 47th minute and a penalty kick by Joya in the 78th minute.
The Rams needed just 22 shots to come up with 10 goals. Meanwhile, they allowed only eight Paul Quinn shots.
Lauren Bond made one save in the second half after
Christy Zwart (3-0) did not face a shot on goal in the first half.
"This was a good win tonight offensively," Head Coach
Josh Gibbs said after the game. "Ten goals from twenty-two shots is very efficient, exactly what we're looking for in the attack. I would've liked a clean sheet, but their number seven [Joya] is a fantastic player. She was dangerous throughout, and we got ourselves into a bit of trouble on the two goals. Just more to clean up, but all in all it was a good day."
The Rams will return to action on Saturday, when they travel to Tyler, TX, to take on Texas College. That game is scheduled for a 1:00 p.m. start.
