Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

No. 23 Golden Eagles Top Lady Rams

FORT WORTH, TX:  The Texas Wesleyan University Women's Soccer team (6-2, 1-1 SAC) saw their 5-game winning streak come to an end as they suffered a 5-1 loss at the hands of No. 23 John Brown University (8-2, 2-0 SAC) on Saturday.

The Golden Eagles showed off their depth by playing 22 players in the contest with 18 of them playing at least 20 minutes.  Five of the 11 substitutions accounted for four goals and three assists.

One of those 11 subs, Hannah Poor, stepped onto the field in the 25th minute and got the scoring started just 48 seconds later.

Samantha Moore connected with Taylor Ross for a tying score in the 36th minute, but the Eagles regained the lead just over a minute later with a goal from Sienna Nealon.

A very physical first half ended with John Brown leading 2-1.

Jastin Redman stretched the lead to 3-1 with a goal in the 51st minute.  The game remained in reach until the Eagles netted late goals from Redman (76th minute) and Anna Brown (84th minute).

"It's a tough loss," commented Head Coach Josh Gibbs.  "We made a lot of mistakes today.  John Brown is so talented and well coached, they make you pay for all of your mistakes.  Hats off to them.  They deserved to win, and I've got to get us better prepared to play at a high level."

John Brown outshot the Rams 29-12 and led 10-4 in corner kicks.  Sophomore goalkeeper Christy Zwart (5-1) suffered her first collegiate loss after making six saves.  John Brown's Maggie Allen made four saves for the Eagles.

The Rams are back in action on Tuesday, October 3, when they travel to Oklahoma City University.  That game is scheduled for a 5 p.m. start.
