Grosvenor nets two, Lady Rams stay in front

FORT WORTH – On a rainy Friday night, the Texas Wesleyan Lady Rams (10-3-1, 5-1-1 SAC) celebrated a very accomplished senior class. That senior class and their teammates got to celebrate a win too – a 2-1 victory over Mid-America Christian University (5-8, 1-5 SAC) to remain in first place in the Sooner Athletic Conference standings.

The 2018 squad is the eighth different this century to win at least 10 games in a season. Tameir Grosvenor scored both goals, lifting her to 20 – which tops the 19 she recorded her freshman season.

The Lady Rams got a scare from the upset-minded Evangels, when MACU scored in the 53rd minute from the foot of Liz Lazano. But Taylor Ross came to the rescue in the 88th minute. Her pass to Grosvenor put away a frustrating second half that left fans wondering if they would be headed to overtime for the third time in the last seven games.
Texas Wesleyan out-shot MACU 14-2, earning a 5-1 corner kicks advantage. The Evangels goal was the lone shot on target as senior goalkeeper Lauren Bond (who got the start) and Christy Zwart had a relatively easy evening.

Graduate student Drea Molina – one of nine seniors honored before the game - assisted the first Grosvenor goal in the 6th minute.

CLOSING IN ON 150 / WHAT'S NEXT
Head Coach Josh Gibbs is one win away from 150 career wins. He can achieve that in the next game at John Brown or with a forfeit victory over Bacone to be awarded officially on the 27th.

The Lady Rams travel to John Brown on the 25th, a place that has not been kind to Texas Wesleyan, looking for their first win in Siloam Springs in the 10 all-time meetings between the two clubs.

PLAYOFF PICTURE
Texas Wesleyan is in first place right now, but need a win against John Brown to better secure home field advantage throughout the SAC tournament. Here's who could threaten that in the very competitive outlook:

University of Science and Arts-Oklahoma (4-1-1) – The Drovers have two games left and if they finish tied with the Lady Rams, will likely win the tiebreaker on conference goal differential (since the two teams tied earlier this week). At the moment, USAO is +17, while the Lady Rams are +8.

Central Christian (4-1) – The Tigers lost in overtime to Texas Wesleyan earlier this season, so they would need to win out or get some help. Central Christian has three of the top teams remaining on their schedule.

John Brown and Oklahoma City (3-1-1) – The Eagles can still earn the tiebreaker over Texas Wesleyan, while Oklahoma City cannot. The Stars would need to win out and get some help, while John Brown could simply just win out. Oklahoma City has the easier road, with both MACU and Southwestern Christian on their schedule.
