LEMONT, Ill. – The Texas Wesleyan University men's golf program picked up its 220th win at the Flyer Intercollegiate on Tuesday.
The field of 96 golfers representing 18 teams played three rounds at Cog Hill's Dubsdread Course. The teams were scheduled to play two rounds yesterday, but the second round had to be suspended due to darkness. The delay did not phase the Rams though, as four TXWES golfers finished in the top 12.
Texas Wesleyan saved its best round for the final round, posting the lowest score of the tournament at 293. That gave the Rams a seven stroke advantage to run away with the win.
Rowan Lester finished one stroke behind the lead at +2. Minnesota State Mankato's Matt Bennett won the tournament at +1.
Minot State followed the Rams at +29 in second, Minnesota State Mankato placed third (+32), Winona State followed in fourth (+43), and McKendree rounded out the top five (+47). Host Lewis University finished in sixth (+52).
The Rams will head North again to play in the Whistling Straights Championship in Kholer, Wis. The 36-hole tournament hosted by Taylor University is scheduled for Sunday, October 21.
