Men's Soccer bested by Drovers in SAC Quarterfinals

CHIKASHA, OK - After playing even with University of Science and Arts-Oklahoma (14-3-2, 7-1-2 SAC) in the first half, the floodgates opened for the Drovers in the second 45 minutes, as No. 2 USAO took out No. 7 Texas Wesleyan (7-10-1, 3-6-1 SAC) 5-0 in the Sooner Athletic Conference quarterfinals.

Goals came in the 47th, 50th and 54th minute. Rams midfielder Jovanni Angon was given a red card after the third goal, leaving the Rams down a man. Eder Falcon picked up a yellow in the same sequence. USAO tacked on successful strikes in the 77th and 81st minutes.

Butch Hampton scored the first two goals for the Drovers, the first off a penalty kick and the second off a corner. The Drovers were limited to just seven shots in the first half, but never stopped attacking the Rams in the second, firing 17 shots at goalkeeper Bastian Blumenberg, who made five second-half saves.

USAO earned six first-half corners and despite a 17-4 shot discrepancy, the Drovers were actually called for 10 more fouls than the Rams were in the second half, smelling blood in the water.

The result turned out to be nothing like the first meeting when both teams played to a 1-1 draw.

GETTING STRONGER
While the season ended for Texas Wesleyan Saturday night, the program still won the most games since 2015. Claudio Barraza finished as the team leader in goals scored (9) while George Battersby racked up the most assists (7). Blumenberg started 15 of the team's 17 games this season, earning 73 saves, including a season high of 10 against LSU-Shreveport.

WILD ENDINGS THROUGHOUT THE BRACKET
The SAC Quarterfinals were eventful, as No. 1 Wayland Baptist needed overtime to take care of No. 8 SAGU and No. 4 Oklahoma City was upset by No. 5 MACU. USAO will meet No. 6 John Brown, who stunned No. 3 Southwestern Christian.
