FORT WORTH, Texas – The Texas Wesleyan University volleyball team (22-9, 17-3 SAC) wrapped up the regular season with a 3-1 (22-25, 25-21, 25-12, 25-22) win over Mid-America Christian University (14-16, 8-12 SAC) on Senior Day on Saturday.
Sasha Robinson eclipsed 2,000 career assists as a Lady Ram during the match. She now has 2,095 total assists for her career including the 86 assists she racked up in her freshman season while at Columbia College (Mo.).
Brittni Mohle led all players with 15 kills. Seven of those kills came in the decisive fourth set.
Chastiny Brown was on point once again with 12 kills, hitting.259.
Tierra Coverson had a complete game at the net, notching eight kills and getting in on seven blocks in the win.
Brenda Pargas matched her season high with 31 assists.
Brianna Sitton posted her ninth 20-plus dig performance with an even 20.
Naomi Tanaka capped the regular season with a career-high 17 digs.
The Evangels played solid defense in the first set, as the Lady Rams came out flat and were tested early. Neither team hit particularly well – the two teams each hitting under .100 and combining for 16 attacking errors in the opening frame. MACU took the set after a 6-1 run made it 23-19, before holding off the Lady Rams the rest of the way.
Texas Wesleyan established an early 10-4 advantage to start the second set, on the heels of three kills from Brown. The Lady Rams led by as many as eight before the Evangels launched a 12-2 run to gain a 19-17 edge. TXWES recovered and outscored Mid-America 8-2 the rest of the way for the win.
The Lady Rams turned the corner in the third set, getting back to their dominant ways. The team enjoyed its most efficient set of the match, with an 83 side out percentage while hitting a scorching .519. The Rams rallied for a 25-12 tilt.
In the fourth, the Evangels could muster only 10 kills, despite being plus one in attempts. Texas Wesleyan tallied eight more kills than MACU, hitting .208 and overpowering the visiting team. The set was not as close as the final score and the Rams cruised to another home win – the 11th of the season.
The Lady Rams finish the regular season in the third spot in the conference standings and will host sixth seeded Wayland Baptist on Tuesday, November 6. That match set for a 7 p.m. start at the Sid Richardson Center.
