WAXAHACHIE, TX: The 18th ranked Texas Wesleyan University Baseball team (18-7, 10-2 SAC) completed a sweep of a three-game Sooner Athletic Conference series with Southwestern Assemblies of God University (8-20, 1-14 SAC) by taking a doubleheader on Saturday with scores of 8-3 and 12-3.
Kiki Menendez continued his offensive tear with three home runs in the series finale and six RBI on the day. Menendez has blasted six home runs and driven in 16 in six games this week, upping his season totals to 11 home runs and 33 RBI.
In game one,
Donnie Lopez led off with a single and later scored on a ground ball from Menendez. After Corey Gallegos drove in a run in the third,
Michael Davila ripped an RBI double to make it 3-0.
The Lions plated three runs in the third to close within a run, but the Rams exploded for four runs in the sixth including a three-run pinch-hit bomb from
Julio Ibarra.
Jacob Barfield homered to lead off the seventh and cap the scoring at 8-3.
Brad Sugg (5-0) tossed a complete game allowing three unearned runs on five hits while striking out seven.
In game two, the Rams blasted six home runs including three by
Kiki Menendez. Menendez got the scoring started with a solo homer in the first inning. SAGU got that run back in the bottom of the inning, but the Rams were just getting started.
Ryan Breaud homered in the second, then, in the third, Menendez blasted his second of the game and
Jacob Barfield touched off a two-run shot of his own.
In the fifth,
Ted Wisdom got in on the aerial attack with a three-run homer. The Rams completed the offensive onslaught with three runs in the sixth including Menendez's third home run of the game, a two run shot.
Menendez was 3-for-4 with three home runs four RBI and four runs scored in the game.
Corley Huffstickler (3-2) picked up the win after allowing three runs, two earned on seven hits in five innings of work.
Parker Robinson and
Tres Underwood each worked a scoreless inning of relief.
The Rams will return to action on Tuesday, when they make the short trip to Richardson, TX, to take on UT Dallas. That game is scheduled for a 3:00 p.m. start.

- The Texas Wesleyan record for home runs in a game by an individual is 4 by Andy Franks against Emporia State on March 13, 1984. The team record for home runs in a game is 8 against the University of the Incarnate Word on March 27, 1999.
- Menendez had two multi-homer games this week. He had two home runs and eight RBI in a win over LSU Alexandria and three home runs and four RBI in the 12-3 win over SAGU.
- For the week, Menendez batted .474 (10-for-19) with a double, six home runs, 16 RBI and 10 runs scored.

Donnie Lopez batted .619 (13-for-21) this week with three doubles, four RBI and nine runs scored.
