Rams top Steers 10-8: Streak Hits 17

At 17 games, the Rams' winning streak is the second longest in school history trailing only a 19-game winning streak in 2008.

FORT WORTH, TX:  The 19th ranked Texas Wesleyan University Baseball team (30-7) matched the second longest winning streak in school history with their 17th consecutive victory on Wednesday.  The Rams used an eighth inning rally to top Texas College (20-22) 10-8 at Sycamore Park.

The 17-game winning streak matches the 2016 team for the second longest streak in school history.  The school record of 19 consecutive wins was set by the 2008 team.

A leadoff single from Ted Wisdom and a two-out knock from Jacob Barfield got the Rams on the board in the first inning.

In the second, Texas Wesleyan showed off some team speed.  The Rams pushed their lead to 4-0 as they scored three runs on three hits while swiping four bases.

TC fought back with two runs on three hits in the third.  The Rams made it 5-2 with a two-out RBI single from Kaden Brown in the bottom of the third, but defensive miscues in the fourth and sixth led to six Texas College runs and put the Steers on top 8-6.

In the seventh Julio Ibarra got the Rams within a run with an RBI single following a leadoff hit form Donnie Lopez.

The Steers threatened to add to their lead in the eighth when they loaded the bases with one out.  Parker Robinson came out of the pen and got Carlos Callazo to popup a bunt attempt which turned into an inning-ending double-play.

In the bottom of the eighth, Jacob Barfield ripped a two-out two-run double that put the Rams back in the lead and then scored on a double from Ibarra to bring the score to 10-8.

Alex Davis worked a perfect ninth inning to lockdown his ninth save of the season, while Robinson moved to 4-0 on the season with the win after facing just one batter.

The Rams pounded out 18 hits, four of them by Kiki Menendez who went 4-for-5 with a double and two RBI.  Barfield was 3-for-4 with a double and three RBI.

The Rams will return to action Friday and Saturday when they travel to Plainview, TX, for a three-game Sooner Athletic Conference series with Wayland Baptist University.
