TEXARKANA, TX: The 20th ranked Texas Wesleyan University Baseball (31-10) team dropped a 15-5 decision in a mid-week contest at No. 21 Texas A&M-Texarkana (30-14) on Tuesday.
Just after game time, the NAIA released the fourth regular season edition of its NAIA Coaches' Poll. The Rams fell one spot to No. 20 after going 6-2 since the previous poll.
The Rams jumped ahead of the Eagles 4-1, but TAMUT used a 6-run fifth and a four-run seventh to salt the win away.
Donnie Lopez got Texas Wesleyan on the board in with a solo homer in the first innings, the first of four bombs on the day for the Rams.
The Eagles notched an unearned run in the first, but back-to-back jacks from
Kiki Menendez and
Cory Gallegos sparked a three-run fifth inning that pushed the score to 4-1.
Things got away from the Rams in the bottom of the sixth when the Eagles sent ten men to the plate and scored six runs on four hits, a walk and two hit batters.
Julio Ibarra homered in the seventh, but Texarkana continued to pile on with a run in the sixth, four in the seventh and three in the eighth.
Justin Swecker (5-1) earned the win after allowing four runs on nine hits in five innings of work.
Parker Robinson (4-1) was tagged with his first loss of the season after allowing four runs on four hits in 2.1 innings.
The Rams racked up 12 hits, but left nine runners stranded in the game.
Ted Wisdom went 3-for-4 at the plate, while Menendez (2-for-4), Gallegos (2-for-3) and Ibarra (2-for-4) all had multi-hit days as well.
The Rams will return to action this weekend in a three-game Sooner Athletic Conference series against 5th ranked Oklahoma City University. Friday's series opener is scheduled for a 4:00 p.m. start with Saturday's doubleheader scheduled for a 12:00 p.m. first pitch.
