Rams batter Steers, 9-1

FORT WORTH - Texas Wesleyan had no trouble ousting the Texas College Steers (0-4) Wednesday afternoon at Martin Field, getting off a whopping 42 shots to the Steers' four in a 9-1 victory, improving to 3-1 on the season.

It was a hat trick for Tameir Grosvenor, scoring in the 20th, 25th and 75th minutes. It was her fourth hat trick in 22 games with the Rams and her second against Texas College. This go-around, Grosvenor added an assist to her outing against the Steers, finding Taylor Ross in the 66th minute. It was Grosvenor's third game already in 2018 with a goal and an assist.

For Ross, it was her first goal of the season - and she wasn't the only one getting her first goal of 2018 in her pocket. Lynzie Moore (4th minute), Katelynn Teufel (60th minute) and Kristen Carter (79th minute) all got to celebrate their shots in the back of the net.

Moore got to answer on a penalty kick after a foul on Texas College's Yenny Borjas. This, following a Grosvenor shot that hit the post and was deflected out, for which she earned a corner.

Cheyenne Moore helped Teufel nab her first - an inside the box finish - and Carter found her magic while running out of real estate in front of the left post after a rocket from Haley Balthrop was knocked away, but not cleared.

The Lady Rams' 42 shots on the day were bested only by their 46 they managed to get off against Jarvis Christian September 1 of last season. The opportunities seemed endless for the Rams who also got a pair of goals from freshman Sasha Trejo (14th and 27th minutes).

Despite the Ram dominance, Texas College managed to sneak behind the Lady Rams' backline for a tap-in, in the 77th minute. At that point, the game was well out of reach.

"It was a good win tonight," said Head Coach Josh Gibbs. "We are still very much a work in progress, but I think some things came together a bit more tonight. Credit to Texas College - they really jammed things up and made it tough to play, especially in the final third. Now we just have to rest up for a good Friends team on Friday."

RAMBLINGS:

Not only are the Rams off to a fast start once more in the win column, but they're also fast to score. Six of the teams 18 goals this season have come in the first 20 minutes of play, including three in the first five minutes of ball games.

WHAT'S NEXT:

Texas Wesleyan will face Friends College Friday night at Martin Field, 7 p.m. Friends is off to a 2-0 start in 2018.
