Men's Soccer drops road game to Drovers

CHICKASHA, OK - Texas Wesleyan Men's Soccer (3-11, 2-3 SAC) missed an opportunity to move up the Sooner Athletic Conference standings Friday night at University of Science and Arts-Oklahoma (6-5-1, 1-3 SAC) falling 4-1.

Claudio Barraza scored the team's only goal, assisted by Hector Perez. It was the second-straight game for Barraza and Perez with a goal and an assist, respectively. Opportunities for Texas Wesleyan were few and far between, especially in the first half when the Rams were out-shot 12-1. TXWES found more space in the second half - firing off seven shots - but only Barraza's dropped in.

Goalkeeper Bastian Blumenberg recorded 10 saves, his second game of the season with double-digit saves and the fourth of his career.

Barraza once again came off the bench. Head Coach Cole Sweetser brought a total of five players off the bench in the match looking for a spark, the most players off the bench since the McPherson game August 31.

Chickasha has been a tough place to score for the Rams. In their last five visits to USAO, the Rams have one goal. Things have been different when the Drovers come to Fort Worth, with TXWES going 2-0-1 in the last three contests. Recent history is on the side of the Rams - Texas Wesleyan hasn't lost back-to-back games since the turn of the calendar to October.

The Rams will see how the rest of the field plays out most of the time over the next two weeks. The only team that has played five conference games, TXWES will only see two opponents in the next 14 days, the first being at Central Christian Friday October 19. The Tigers play Wayland Baptist Saturday afternoon in Plainview.

With four games to go, Texas Wesleyan sits in sixth place in the ten-team conference. The top eight teams will make the SAC Tournament.
