Texas Wesleyan rips through Tigers, 3-1

MCPHERSON, KS - Texas Wesleyan Women's Soccer (10-4, 5-1 SAC) got back in action after eight days off with a 3-1 victory over Central Christian (4-9, 0-6 SAC) Saturday afternoon.

Savanna Barron got the scoring started in the 26th minute before CC's Mariah Godinez tied the game up in the 49th minute. The Tigers, despite their struggles against the rest of the conference, had taken the Lady Rams to overtime in back-to-back seasons, but with 40 minutes remaining in regulation, the Lady Rams made sure this would not be the fate of the matchup in 2019.

Taylor Ross found space to create down the stretch, notching goals in the 70th and 86th minutes to create separation. It was Ross' second game of the season with multiple goals and her ninth and 10th successful shots of the season, four off her career high for goals in a season.

Goalkeeper Christy Zwart had three saves.

The conference regular season title is still up for grabs and could be decided Thursday October 24 in the Lady Rams next game, when the John Brown Golden Eagles come to Martin Field. John Brown is the conference's lone unbeaten, but the margin is thin. Both Texas Wesleyan and University of Science and Arts are 5-1. USAO lost to John Brown and TXWES lost to the Drovers, so if the Lady Rams defeat JBU, it could force a three-way tie at the top.

Mid-America Christian and Wayland Baptist also have just one loss, but neither have played Texas Wesleyan nor John Brown (MACU) / USAO (Wayland) and likely won't be in the race for first when its all said and done.

Tameir Grosvenor was unable to find the back of the net for the second-straight game after scoring 18 in her previous five appearances. She still needs two goals to top Jessica Carrion's record for goals in a career and tie Carrion's record for goals in a season, but at least she'll get the chance to break the long-standing records at home after the team played on the road four straight.
