TXWES swiftly sends USAO home in straight sets

FORT WORTH, TX - Texas Wesleyan Volleyball (11-6, 7-2 SAC) took care of business Friday night at the Sid Richardson Center, taking out the University of Science and Arts-Oklahoma (1-12, 1-8 SAC) 25-10, 25-7, 25-10.

The dominant performance was headlined by the performance of Arianna Alvarado and Sydney Charlton at the net. Alvarado had 13 kills and 0 attacking errors, hitting .722, while Charlton earned 11 kills with no attacking errors, rocketing to a hit percentage of .458. It was the first and second time, respectively, the two hitters recorded a game with no errors and their complete control helped make the night simple.

So did USAO. The Rams served up 11 aces and the Drovers committed 16 other errors, meaning TXWES didn't have to work much for 27 of their 75 points in the match, or 36% of their total points. Madison Lopez recorded a season high five aces, including three back-to-back-to-back in Set 2 to push the Lady Rams to a 9-1 advantage.

"I am very proud of (Arianna) and (Sydney's) offensive efforts tonight," said Head Coach Jessica Ransom. "We have been working on terminating and taking care of the ball for several weeks now. It's nice to see those things transition into a match. Credit also to the passes being in system and the setters delivering a good ball. I'm very happy with our total team effort."

In the third set, Ram fans got to see some new faces pop off the bench. Haley Harvey, freshman from Summit High School in Arlington, had two digs and an assist. Madison Little, junior transfer from NCTC, got the last two kills to end the game, including a smack from the back line that caromed off the hand of a Drover unexpectedly. Alejandra House, freshman from Keller, Texas, saw significant time at the net and earned a kill and an assisted block.

In the second set, the 25-7 win was the fifth time this season TXWES has limited opponents to scoring in single digits.

Brenda Pargas had 30 assists, her new season high and two off a career high she delivered in the final game of 2018 against McPherson in the NAIA Opening Round. She also delivered a season high in kills (three) and earned an ace.

Texas Wesleyan will face Mid-America Christian Saturday at 1 p.m. The Evangels are right behind the Lady Rams in the Sooner Athletic Conference standings, but lost in straight-sets at Southwestern Assemblies of God Friday night, albeit close, 25-22, 25-21, 25-20. Texas Wesleyan has never lost to MACU, defeating the Evangels in all 16 previous meetings, 14 of which have come this decade.
