FORT WORTH, TX - A victory for Texas Wesleyan Men's Basketball (4-1) was never in doubt Thursday night at the Sid Richardson Center. The Rams ended the first half on a 19-0 run and dominated all facets of the game in a 124-59 rout.
It's the most points TXWESÂ has scored since December 18, 2008 when the Rams launched 142 points on Hillside FW Baptist in a 142-97 win. The 65-point victory is the widest margin of victory in a game since individual game scores were readily available from the 2003-04 campaign. Dallas Christian has been on the wrong end of Texas Wesleyan blowouts before - the Crusaders lost by 110 points to the Rams during the 1993-94 season when Texas Wesleyan scored a program record 169 points.
Dallas Christian plays in the NCCAAÂ and has already played Sooner Athletic Conference opponents Southwestern Christian, Southwestern Assemblies of God and Central Christian. The closest DCC got was a 20-point loss to SCU.
Davon Berry led the Rams in scoring for the first time this season with 19 points on 8-of-10 shooting with six assists.
Joe Cook-Green probably would have had a triple double if the game had stayed close - he also had six assists with six rebounds and nine points in 22 minutes.
Sebastian Karwoski earned a double-double, dominating early and often in the lane. His stat line included 17 points on 8-of-10 shots with 10 boards, three steals and two assists.
Akeem White pitched in 15 points and three blocks.
The bench helped keep the margin of victory wide.
Marshall Calvin scored 13 points in 16 minutes,
Peyton Sallee nailed a pair of threes and a few other looks for 12 points,
David Shepard added 11 points and
Christian Russell and
Shaun Rost combined to hit all seven of their shots for 16 points and six rebounds in just 12 minutes of work. TXWES' bench scored 58 points, just one shy of what DCC contributed as an entire team.
Inside the three-point line, the Rams made 40-of-50 shots - a lay-up clinic. Fast break after fast break, dunk after dunk, Texas Wesleyan couldn't have had more easy opportunities. The Rams outplayed the Crusaders in the paint, 66-26, and took full advantage of an extreme number of turnovers from the Crusaders, 32. The Rams outscored Dallas Christian in points off turnovers, 42-5.
With 3:27 to go in the first half, TXWESÂ held a 45-23 lead. In the final 3:27 - and in the first 50 seconds of the second half - the Rams outscored their opponent 23-0 hitting 9-of-11 shots. DCC committed seven turnovers on nine possessions in that horrifying 4:17 stretch.
The Rams will visit Midwestern State Saturday for an exhibition game with the Division II Mustangs before returning to NAIA competition against Paul Quinn Monday night at the Sid Richardson Center at 7 p.m. Tuesday's victory over Dallas Christian improved the Rams to 8-0 in the series. TXWES has won 16 in a row against Paul Quinn, 26-7 all-time.Â
