FORT WORTH, Texas – The Texas Wesleyan Men's Basketball team (6-2) cruised to a 35-point, 106-71 blowout win over Arlington Baptist (0-7) at the Sid Richardson Center on Tuesday.
The Ram faithful who staved off visions of Thanksgiving feasts and Black Friday deals were treated to a dominating win today, displaying impressive ball movement in the second half. The defense stayed hungry until the final horn, going plus-eight in turnovers, to go along with 12 steals.
The Rams were also plus-14 in rebounds and pulled down a season best 18 on the offensive side. The team turned those boards in 19 second chance points. TXWES was sharp from the field, shooting 49.4 percent and went 10-24 (41.7%) from downtown.
The Patriots rallied early, grabbing a six-point, 21-15 lead seven minutes in on the heels of 6-2 run capped by a Chris Jordan lay-up. A timeout got the Rams back on track, exploding for a 9-0 rally capped by a pair of
Akeem White buckets. That gave Texas Wesleyan a lead they would not relinquish.
The Rams made it a double-digit lead with
Peyton Sallee triple and
Marshall Calvin put in the last bucket of the half to make it a 57-37 lead at the break.
It was more of the same in the second half as TXWES got the ball moving, getting pretty much whatever they wanted inside while also finding wide open looks on the perimeter. Four different Rams hit from beyond the arc in the second half.
The team enjoyed a 10-1 run capped by a
Sebastian Karwoski lay-in deep in the second half that really twisted the knife in the Arlington Baptist wound. TXWES finished strong as
Christian Russell put in four point in the closing minutes before Marshall splashed in the three to end the game at 106-71.
Karwoski led all players with a season-high 26 point and 10 rebounds. White posted a season-high 25 points. Sallee dropped in 15 points.
Davon Berry led all players with 11 rebounds, a season-high. He also tacked on six assists and six points.
The team will travel to Austin for a bout with Huston-Tillotson on Saturday, November 30. Tip-off is set for 3 p.m.
