Box Score MIAMI GARDENS, FL - Texas Wesleyan Women's Basketball improved its record to 6-2 Tuesday night in south Florida with a 71-54 triumph over Florida Memorial (7-5), a program that hadn't lost at home all season prior to facing TXWES.
The Lady Rams were victorious despite shooting a single free throw. The Lions were 1-of-2 in a game that featured an astonishing 12 fouls.
TXWES scored 30 points off of 24 turnovers, five of which were forced by
Destiney Winkfield steals. Winkfield also had 15 points and four assists on 7-of-10 shooting. Another game, another burst of scoring for the offense as the Lady Rams poured in 25 points in the second quarter hitting 11-of-20 shots. The defense held Florida Memorial to nine points in the third frame to expand the lead to 14, 56-42. Texas Wesleyan also had 19 offensive rebounds, turning them in to 24 second-chance points.
It was the third time already this season the Rams have held an opponent to under 60 points (3-0) - the defense on average is giving up 63.4 points per game, 44th in the NAIA.
Nicole Gleason was the leading scorer with 16 points, hitting four threes in the process, contributing six boards, four assists, two steals and a block along the way.
Alexus Brigham added 12 points off the bench.Â
The Lady Rams stay in Florida Wednesday December 18 for a tilt with Johnson and Wales at 7:30 p.m. The Wildcats are undefeated, 8-0, but has yet to play anyone outside the state of Florida this season. Texas Wesleyan is 3-0 all-time against Johnson and Wales.
