SHREVEPORT, LA - While the undefeated season may be over, that didn't stop Texas Wesleyan Baseball (11-3) from taking another nail-biter away from an opponent. The Rams scored four runs in the seventh inning Saturday morning against Ecclesia College (5-2) and then held off an Ecclesia comeback for a 5-4 victory. In the nightcap, the host-and-still-unbeaten LSU-Shreveport Pilots got the better of the Rams in a 12-2 game.
Down 2-1 entering the seventh, the Rams dragged out what likely felt like an endless inning for Ecclesia and it all came from just two hits. Hits came from
Tanner Amaral and
David Pewenofkit (both singles) but it was everything else in the inning that the Rams truly took advantage of.
Houston Glad reached on a fielding error to start the inning,
Joseph Barfield was walked and then on Pewenofkit's single, Glad eventually scored on another fielding error.
A wild pitch brought Barfield home and
Brooks Wallace (who came in to run for Pewenofkit) scored on the Amaral single.
Now 4-2,
Mark Schreiner was hit by a pitch - still with just one out in the inning. A fielders choice drove in Amaral and after
Caden Williams was walked, Ecclesia finally got out of their jam.
Glad and
Jeddediah Fagg had hits earlier plus a RBI for Fagg in the second frame.
In the second game of the night, LSU-Shreveport used a few strong innings to pull away. The Pilots scored four runs in the second, three in the fourth and five in the sixth. Fagg earned another RBI as did
Michael Davila. Amaral doubled to left field in the fifth and got to third on a wild pitch, but was left on base.
The Rams used nine pitchers in the two games.
Parker Robinson saw the most time - four innings against Ecclesia - with four Ks.
Justin Ward had some good highlights in limited action. He went three-up, three-down in the fifth in Game 1 and when he re-appeared against LSUS, he closed out the sixth with three strikeouts against his last four batters.Â

WHAT'S NEXT
Baseball is back at home Wednesday February 20 at 2 p.m. before a three-game swing with Dallas Baptist. On Friday February 22, the Rams will be in Dallas for Game 1 of the three-game series before Dallas Baptist visits Sycamore Park for a Saturday doubleheader starting at noon CT.
Two opponents that have faced the Rams quite a bit over the years, Texas College has only won 6 of the two team's 30 meetings while the Dallas Baptist series has been a back-and-forth affair since its start with the Rams leading 42-34 heading into the weekend. The Steers came to Sycamore Park twice earlier this season with Texas Wesleyan edging out both games 8-6 and 8-7.
