FORT WORTH, Texas – The No. 21 Texas Wesleyan University baseball team (25-4, 8-1 SAC) completed a sweep of RV Wayland Baptist University (15-11, 5-3 SAC) in 12-2 run-rule.
The Rams wasted no time in the final game of the series, putting up crooked numbers in the first four innings to establish a monster lead. The team produced all of its offense in those four innings, turning 13 hits into 12 runs.
TXWES jumped out to a 4-0 lead in the first.
Brayden Bahnsen smacked a double to deep right center to open the frame, before
Michael Davila drove in two more with a base knock through the left side.
Mark Schreiner capped the drive with a looping single into shallow right center.
The Rams came back in the second and third, tacking on three runs in each inning. Bahnsen and Schreiner repeated their efforts in with a pair of RBI singles and
Sheadion Jamanika got in on the fun with a RBI shot through the left side to extend the lead.
Davila and
Alan Campero added runs in the third, making it 10-0 before the Pioneers got on the board.
Dawin Santos gave Wayland its first extra-base hit with a double down the left field line before Brendon Faust drove the runner in on a base hit to up the middle.
Not to be outdone, the Rams added two more in the fourth. Jamanika doubled down the left field line to set up a
Houston Glad RBI double to the same spot.
Caden Williams capped the scoring with a RBI liner into left.
The Pioneers were able to manufacture one more run in the fifth, but that was it as Glad shut Wayland down the rest of the way to complete the game.
Glad (5-1) earned the win. The senior from Claremore, Okla. threw seven strong innings, allowing just two runs (one earned), on six hits, to go along with nine strikeouts. Glad also went 2 for 4 with one run batted in.
Davila led the Rams offensively in 2 for 3 day with three RBI. Bahnsen and Schreiner each went 2 for 4 with a pair of RBI.
Caden Williams was 2 for 3 with a run batted in for TXWES.
The Rams will stay at home and take on Arlington Baptist on Tuesday, March 19 in double header action. First pitch is set for 1:00 p.m.
