FORT WORTH – It was a smooth day for Texas Wesleyan Softball (13-19, 8-8 SAC) as the Lady Rams took care of business for their sixth and seventh-straight victories Saturday afternoon at Sycamore Park. TXWES kept Bacone (0-14) winless, 11-0 in Game 1 and 16-1 in Game 2.
The Lady Rams wasted no time in Game 1, earning 11 runs in the first two frames to pull ahead big.
Chyann Jarrett went 2-of-2,
Lacy Mann was 3-for-3 with 2 RBI, Kaitlin Johnson drove in two on two successful plate appearances and
Ashton Davis went 2-for-2 with 3 runs batted in.
Brittney Vasquez came in for Davis and delivered with a double down the right field line – her first hit of the season.
Taylor Sutton,
Hailey Hollingsworth,
Bailey Terry and
Saeya Esparza all drove in runners for scores, too. It was Mann's triple that made the biggest impact. After Terry's single put her on first and Jarrett got to third, Mann used a NNW wind to swipe a ball into right field – staying fair – but taking a huge bounce to the foul fence after hopping into fair territory.
It allowed both runners to score and gave the Lady Rams a 3-0 lead. It was a sign of what was to come the rest of the day.
In Game 2, the Warriors actually showed some fight, getting a run on the board while holding the Lady Rams to just three runs through the first two frames. But with two outs down 5-0 in the bottom of the third, the wheels fell off for Bacone and TXWES was ready to take full advantage.
After a Davis double and Summers and Jarrett singles made the Rams' advantage 8-1, the situation turned from bad to worse for the Warriors. Terry's next at-bat featured a wild throw from Bacone's catcher that flew all the way down the right-field line allowing Jarrett to reach second base – and then to third. Terry ended up getting on base from a second baseman error. Then, Mann reached thanks to an issue in right field for Bacone's defense allowing Jarrett to score, unearned.
The misfortunes kept up. Sutton managed to reach the bag on an error at third and a passed ball helped score Terry. Now 10-1,
Jenna Rhoades got involved after a ball hit straight to the pitcher was mismanaged – Mann scores, 11-1.
Texas Wesleyan earned the rest of an 11-run bottom of the third thanks to timely hitting from
Savannah Brixey and
Kimani Ferguson. In all, TXWES' final six runs of that frame went unearned thanks to the epic collapse.
Jarrett had a double and a triple in the second meeting and Johnson also delivered a triple, while Ferguson also turned a double.
Both pitchers had little issue. Mann struck out six giving up just one hit in Game 1.
Makenna Aycock pitched the second game and struck out six too, giving up three hits.
WHAT'S NEXT

The Lady Rams will face seven different opponents during that stretch (includes Oklahoma City and four-straight at Central Christian, too).
Texas Wesleyan will finally return home to face Southwestern Christian on Thursday April 25.
