Game Recap: Men's Basketball | | Cameron Irvine

Down the stretch, No. 22 Rams shoot down Stars

OKLAHOMA CITY, OK - No. 22 Texas Wesleyan Men's Basketball (11-3, 4-1 SAC) went on a 26-7 run on the backend of the second half to nab a road victory over Oklahoma City (8-5, 2-3 SAC), 83-80.

Down 64-55 with 9:32 to play, the Rams got huge boosts from Peyton Sallee and Akeem White, who returned to the lineup after a two-game absence over the holiday break. White scored 13 points and grabbed six rebounds in the second half on 6-of-9 shooting while Sallee had eight points, six rebounds and four steals in 17 second-half minutes on the floor. TXWES took the lead with 6:38 to go and never gave it back.

Texas Wesleyan out-scored OCU 46-37 in the second frame, despite missing all eight shots from beyond the arc, thanks once again in part to the squads stingy defense in the month of January. TXWES forced 11 second-half turnovers, while committing just two. In total, the Rams took the ball away from the Stars 21 times, the fourth game in a row the hometown squad has kept opponents scrambling to the tune of 20-plus giveaways.

White and Sallee each finished with 20 points. Sam Lorenzen scored 13, Davon Berry and LaMont Simmons etched 11 points into the box score. The only starter to not score in double figures was Sebastian Karwoski, who fouled out in just nine minutes on the floor. Karwoski has scored in double figures in all but one game he's played at least 20 minutes this season (seven times). As a result, the Rams kept a small lineup on the floor most of the night, getting 25 minutes out of Joe Cook-Green and 14 out of David Shepard. White also hauled in a team-high 11 rebounds.

The Rams now rank 10th in the NAIA in points scored per game, a touch over 92. TXWES is 13th in the country in turnover margin at +4.07. Texas Wesleyan dominated in the paint, 38-18.

Southwestern Christian comes to town Saturday at 4 p.m. The Eagles haven't won in Fort Worth since 2015, scraping by with a two-point win. The Rams have won by double digits in three of the last four meetings on their home court.
