No. 1 OCU continues roll despite Lady Rams' nine three-pointers

OKLAHOMA CITY, OK - No team has been able to solve the No. 1 Oklahoma City Stars (12-0, 5-0 SAC) this season, not even Texas Wesleyan (8-4, 3-2 SAC) who, despite nine threes and 14 points off the bench from Hailee Walls, fell short of OCU Thursday night 83-66.

Nicole Gleason fell just short of a triple-double - ten rebounds, seven assists and six points - and Evie Whorley contributed 11 points on 4-of-8 shooting. A slow start dug a deficit, 21-6 at the end of the first quarter. After the first ten minutes, Texas Wesleyan essentially played the unbeaten Stars even. A slow start is one hurdle to overcome, Oklahoma City getting 39 free throw attempts, making 30, is a whole other task to deal with. Texas Wesleyan was called for 25 fouls, to the Stars' 10.

Jordan Brightwell provided defense in the trenches, blocking five shots to go with eight points and four assists. She made every shot she took in 24 minutes. Only four players in program history have recorded more than five blocks in a game and only one of those performances came in conference - Katelynn Threats, against Mid-America Christian (also from Oklahoma City) on February 2, 2017.

TXWES had 20 assists on 24 made shots, the second time this season the Lady Rams have had at least 20 assists in a game. After one trey in the first half, the Lady Rams hit 8-of-15 from beyond the arc in the second half.

Everyone who played contributed on the road. Destiney Winkfield scored nine points with a couple of assists, Alexus Brigham hit 3-of-4 shots for eight points Chrystal Ngawuchu scored five points in her return to the lineup and Darby Pugh once again made the most of her time hitting a three in her first minute on the court.

Four of the next five contests will be at the Sid Richardson Center, starting with Saturday's tilt with Southwestern Christian at 2 p.m. MACU (1/16), Langston (1/23) and Central Christian (1/25) are coming to town over the next couple of weeks. TXWES has defeated SCU three-straight times at the Sid Richardson Center, each time holding the Eagles to under 60 points.
