FORT WORTH, TX - No. 17 Texas Wesleyan Baseball (9-5) had a tough Friday, dropping a pair of games to Our Lady of the Lake (7-6) 3-0 and 18-8.
JD Valle knocked a three RBI home run just to the right of the scoreboard in left field and
Michael Higgins cracked a solo shot to right field late in Game 2 but it wasn't nearly enough to overcome OLLU's stellar pitching early and timely hitting late.
Logan Garza pitched for the Saints in the first battle and earned eight-straight strikeouts to start another gorgeous day from the renovated ballpark. He finished with 11 Ks and gave up just one hit - Kevin Santiago broke the no-hitter with a single to right field.Â
Our Lady of the Lake scored all three of its runs in the second and outside that frame, both teams had just two hits apiece in a game that didn't even crack the two hour mark.
Jalen Evans pitched a strong, consistent game with six strikeouts and a couple of walks. The defense behind him earned 14 walks on balls put in play.
It was the first meeting between the two programs in three years and in Game 2, the Saints scored more than four runs on Texas Wesleyan for the first time ever. TXWESÂ actually led 3-1 through the second frame thanks to a sacrifice fly from
Marcos Sanchez and a 2 RBI double from
Joaquin Ballesteros, but an eight-run third frame from the Saints put the Rams in too big of a whole. Â
Ballesteros weren't 3-for-3 in Game 2 with 2 RBI and a walk. Seven other different players registered a hit in the second matchup. Our Lady of the Lake led the Rams in stolen bases Friday, 6-1.
Texas Wesleyan will face Bellevue in a Sunday doubleheader starting at noon. Bellevue is in town to play Our Lady of the Lake Saturday afternoon. Bellevue and TXWESÂ have only met three times in program history - the Rams are 3-0.
