ALEXANDRIA, LA - Texas Wesleyan Women's Softball (2-8) hit plenty of doubles against its final two Saturday opponents, but it was just three critical innings that toppled the Lady Rams in a 8-4 loss to Central Baptist and a 6-3 loss to host LSU-Alexandria.
Third baseman
Payton Davidson had a pair of doubles against Alexandria on 3-of-4 at the plate.
Sandra Lopez added one, scoring Davidson in the final frame of the weekend. In Game 1,
Mercedes Beltran and
Ashton Davis each cracked a long shot into the outfield. part of an eight-hit effort against the CBC Mustangs and a four-hit inning in the third frame. Davidson knocked in two more hits as she totaled 5-of-8 Saturday and scored four of the team's seven runs.
Down 3-0 early to CBC, Beltran and Davidson hit back-to-back singles to put two on.
Kylie Summers singled to center, helping both runners score. The squad tied the game in the third at four and battled with the Mustangs in a 4-4 game until the sixth, getting a couple of strikeouts from
Taylor Tubbs. In total, the freshman struck out six in six innings. In the seventh, Central Baptist got hits on five consecutive at-bats and a couple of pops to left field by the Rams offense could not find the ground and put a wrap on Game 4 of the weekend.
The Lady Rams took a 2-0 lead in the first against Alexandria, but the Generals scored four in the second and never gave up the lead.
Madison Ortiz and
Brianna Gibbons pitched six innings without a strikeout, but only walked one batter.
After two tournaments and 10 games on consecutive weekends, Sycamore Park is ready to welcome Texas Wesleyan home. Ottawa (Kan.) University will come to town Friday February 21 for a doubleheader starting at 2 p.m. TXWES finished 12-8 at home last season and has won four of the last five first games at Sycamore. The last time Ottawa and Texas Wesleyan played came last March. The two took 10 innings to play a thrilling 11-10 game during a relocated tournament in Grand Prairie.Â
