Gleason sets Rams' record, but TXWES comeback falls short at MACU

OKLAHOMA CITY, OK - Texas Wesleyan Women's Basketball (13-10, 8-8 SAC) gave the Mid-America Christian Evangels (18-8, 10-6 SAC) all they could handle Saturday afternoon, but could not quite pull out a victory to snap the losing streak - falling to MACU, 83-77.

Down 65-48 early in the fourth quarter, the Lady Rams claimed all the way back, cutting the deficit to two (77-75) on a successful and-1 from Hailee Walls with 2:41 to play. But similarly to Thursday's final few minutes, the buckets just did not fall as the Evangels clung to their 10th Sooner Athletic Confernce victory.

In those seven minutes, the Lady Rams scored 27 points on 10-of-15 shooting. Walls hit three-straight from deep to start the frame and finished with 14 points, the lone member off the bench in double figures.

Nicole Gleason hit six from downtown, breaking the program's record for career three-pointers made, now with 247. She tallied 20 points, four rebounds, two assists and a block Saturday. Gleason is 16 treys shy of her career high for threes made in a season with four regular season conference games to go - the 86 she made as a junior were second-most in a season for the program, 20 behind Susie Mays/Anderson, achieved during the 1995-96 campaign.

Jordan Brightwell added 12 points and seven rebounds while Evie Whorley worked towards a triple double with 11 points, seven rebounds and five assists.

The Rams only got nine free throw attempts, while MACU took 31 trips to the foul line. The Evangels were well aware of the stingy and active hands of the TXWES defense, allowing just three steals to change possession and momentum, the lowest total of steals Texas Wesleyan has had in a game since Janaury 5, 2017.

TXWES will head north next week to face Central Christian Thursday and Langston Saturday, hoping to pick up a couple of victories and regain momentum and better bracket positioning ahead of the SAC Tournament March 3-7.
