Game Recap: Men's Basketball | | Cameron Irvine

No. 24 Rams emphatically sweep No. 13 Lions

FORT WORTH, TX - Texas Wesleyan Men's Basketball (20-8, 13-6 SAC) made a statement in the second half against Southwestern Assemblies of God (21-6, 13-6 SAC) with one emphatic Akeem White slam.

Off an offensive rebound, White took off from the three point line and with one dribble slammed home a game-changing and lead-changing dunk. From that moment, the Rams owned the boards and the momentum. In the second half alone, TXWES grabbed nine offensive rebounds - five from Sebastian Karwoski alone, including another thunderous dunk from Karwoski that brought the bench to its feet and the Lions to the brink of delusion as Lion players clapped at the Rams bench, almost as if they were the one's who just made the statement.

Karwoski hauled in a career high 18 rebounds - 10 total offensive rebounds - with 18 points. The rebounding numbers were SAC records for the season. White scored 23 points in 17 minutes off the bench with seven rebounds, three assists and three steals. Peyton Sallee quietly grabbed a double-double - 15 points and 10 rebounds - with a team high four assists. His rebounds and assists were season highs.

Davon Berry scored 17 points and David Shepard chipped in 11 points off the bench. The Rams unit crashed the offensive boards 18 times for the third time this season (season high) after not reaching that mark at any point during the 2018-19 campaign.

Texas Wesleyan won despite Nykolas Mason's 33 points. Mason has scored at least 26 points in his last five games topping 30 points seven times throughout the season.

The victory helped secure a season sweep of SAGU, moving back into the conference's third position ahead of the first round of the Sooner Athletic Conference Tournament next week. A victory on Thursday night, Senior Night, against John Brown will secure the No. 3 seed. A loss plus a Lion win over John Brown Saturday would drop the Rams to the four-seed - both teams will still host conference quarterfinal games, regardless.

Latest NAIA Top 25 Coaches' Poll News and Notes

-The Rams slipped one spot from No. 23 to No. 24, when the poll was released Wednesday. SAGU remained at No. 13, while SAC leader Mid-America Christian overtook the No. 1 spot and grabbed all nine first-place votes. The Evangels returned to the No. 1 overall spot for the first time since October 25, 2016 in the preseason edition of the Top 25. John Brown is the other SAC team ranked, at No. 9, the final opponent for both TXWES and SAGU.
