Texas Wesleyan Women's Basketball (17-10) slipped into the No. 5 spot on the final day of the conference season thanks to Mid-America Christian and Southwestern Christian's victories on Saturday. That puts the Lady Rams on the road at MACU (20-10) Tuesday night at 6 p.m. Here's what you need to know heading into the SAC quarterfinal:
The MatchupsÂ
Texas Wesleyan and Mid-America Christian split their two battles this season, both winning at home. Both teams jumped out to double-digit halftime leads and won the turnover battle in victory. The Rams were much closer to a win than MACU. Texas Wesleyan trailed by just two with less than three minutes to go on the road, while Mid-America trailed by nearly 30 when the fourth quarter began.Â
The Key PlayersÂ
TXWES'
Nicole Gleason scored 29 points in a win and 20 points in a loss to the Evangels leading the Lady Rams in scoring both games. Alexis Shannon performed similarly, scoring 22 and 20 points in the two games. Gleason had seven steals in the win, but none in the loss.
The Edge
The Lady Rams made 26-of-64 from beyond the arc in two games against MACU - an impressive feat - but TXWES also won the rebounding edge in both games. If the three is not falling, Texas Wesleyan might think about being the aggressor on drives and inside. When the Evangels earned their victory, they also earned 31 trips to the charity stripe, compared to the Rams' nine.
