MBB: Sallee scores 29 in Rams win over OPSU

FORT WORTH, Texas — Peyton Sallee scored a season high 29 points in the Texas Wesleyan Men's Basketball team's 95-69 conference win over Oklahoma Panhandle State on Monday night.
 
The junior from Fort Worth, Texas shot 9-for-10 from behind the arc and bested his season high score by one point when he last netted 28 vs. Dallas Christian on October 26, 2020. Sallee tops the SAC leader board for 3-point shooting percentage and before tonight's game was ranked No. 4 in the NAIA in the same category.
 
Sebastian Karwoski also highlighted with a career high 4 blocks against the Aggies. His previous best was 2 against Southwestern Assemblies of God last season. The senior forward also scored 12 points and was one rebound shy of a double-double.
 
Additionally, Ryan Flores scored 12 of his own, and Francis Doe rounded out the double-digit scoring Rams with 11 points. Sallee and Davon Berry also had three steals each.
 
The Rams kept the pace up against OPSU in the first half, leading by as much as 12 points. Around the six-minute mark, the Aggies went on a 7-0 run to get within two possessions of TXWES. However, the Rams would limit OPSU to just one more basket before the break, carrying a 33-23 lead at the half.
 
In the first frame, the Rams out shot the Aggies from the field 45 percent (13-for-29) to 30 percent (9-for-30) and each team made 3 treys.
 
Although OPSU improved their shooting to 52 percent in the second half, TXWES also advanced to 57 percent and out shot the Aggies in the long ball, draining 8 treys to their four. The Rams also made 14-of-15 of their free throws.
 
TXWES built their lead to as much as 30 and cruised to a 95-69 victory for their first league win of the season.
 
The Rams are now 4-1 overall and 1-1 in SAC play. OPSU drops to 1-2 overall and 0-2 in the conference.
 
Next, the Rams will travel to Siloam Springs, Ark. for a matchup with John Brown on Jan. 14.
