VB weekend recap: Lady Rams go 3-0

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 | Box Score 3 FORT WORTH – The Texas Wesleyan University volleyball team (16-5, 12-2 SAC) went 3-0 this weekend, topping Central Christian (1-24, 1-13 SAC) and Langston (7-15, 2-12 SAC) in straight sets. The Lady Rams capped the weekend with a 3-1 win over NCAA DIII University of St. Thomas – Texas (8-11) at the Sid Richardson Center.
 
TXWES Volleyball completed three matches in less than 24 hours. Breezing past Central Christian on Friday before grabbing a pair of wins today.
 
The Lady Rams are currently tied with Wayland Baptist with the best conference record at 12-2, although the Pioneers took the first of two meeting with TXWES – a 3-1 match in Plainview, Texas. One game back is defending SAC champion Oklahoma City at 11-3, while MACU and SAGU sit at 10-3 heading into the final quarter of the season.
 
Texas Wesleyan made short work of Central Christian, winning 25-8, 25-11, 25-6, and have now won nine consecutive games against the Tigers.
 
Against Langston, the Lady Rams hit .435, matching a season best performance with a 3-0 sweep at Science & Arts on Sept. 18.
 
Veronika Webb and Nyia Anderson were especially sharp. Anderson posted a hitting line of 11-0-21 for a hitting percentage of .524, while Webb went 12-1-20 to hit .550. Morgan Burns organized the attack to a tune of 39 assists in the win, while Ruby O'Brien led all players with 12 digs.
 
Against the St. Thomas, the Lady Rams hit .222 against a defensive-minded Celts team that posted 57 digs and 7 total blocks as a team. Bailey Foy posted a season-high 20 kills in the win, hitting .500 in the process. Burns earned her sixth double-double of the season behind 45 assists and 10 digs.
 
The Lady Rams are hitting .266 as a team for the season, averaging 13.27 kills per set, 12.73 assists per set, 1.91 blocks per set, 1.43 aces per set, and 16.50 digs per set so far in 2021.
 
The team travels to the state capital for a bout with Huston-Tillotson on Tuesday, Oct. 19. First serve is set for 6 p.m.
