MSOC: Rams rip Lions on senior night

The Texas Wesleyan University men's soccer team (7-6-2, 2-4-1 SAC) blasted Southwestern Assemblies of God University (3-10, 0-8 SAC) 6-0 at Martin Field on Tuesday. Oscar Odriozola led the Rams with a hat-trick performance.
 
The men's soccer program honored six seniors. During their time, the six seniors have helped the Rams to 24 wins, 113 goals, a goals against average of 2.33, and many inspiring moments here at Martin Field. This season the Rams hold a 1.62 goals against average, its best since 2015. These athletes have also led the team to be recognized as a SAC Commissioner's Scholar Team in 2020.
 
The Rams struck first in the 27th minute, when Mathis Guffroy dribbled from right to left across the top of the box and beat the keeper to the left bottom corner to start things off on the right foot.
 
In the next minute, Oscar Odriozola made a move off of a deflection from a SAGU defender and struck one into goal. Odriozola used a pass from Gaku Nemoto to launch his second into top left corner from 25 yards out in the 48th. His third came in the 62nd off of a blocked shot the he smashed into the top left corner.
 
James Kerr recorded the next two in the 78th and 81st minute. The first was foot race to between Kerr and the SAGU keeper in the top corner of the box. A sliding Guevara could not control the ball and Kerr reacted quickly and sent in an angled shot from the far left side of the box into goal. The second was ball near the end line where he beat two SAGU defenders and place a line drive toward goal that was deflected off of the keeper and into the net.
 
Bastian Blumenberg earned the win with five saves.
 
The team sits in tie for eighth in the conference standings with Central Christian, the final spot to qualify for the conference tournament. The Rams play the Tigers on the road with crucial postseason implications this Saturday starting at 4:30 p.m.
