WBB: Lady Rams post 40-point blowout of Huston Tillotson

FORT WORTH – The Texas Wesleyan University women's basketball team (3-0) over powered Huston-Tillotson University (1-4) 91-51 at the Sid Richardson Center on Thursday.

The women's basketball program recognized Veterans with a round of applause and joined the United Way of Tarrant County in its Veteran Notecard Project. The Veteran Notecard Project encourages volunteers to write messages of encouragement and gratitude to active and retired military. The Lady Rams had a table set up with a cards and pens for fans to write cards to send to our Veterans.

A 13-2 run capped by an Evie Whorley swish from downtown in the early goings was all TXWES needed, but the Lady Rams did a lot more in a game in which they never trailed.

Perhaps the most telling stat came with 8 seconds remaining in the game, when the Lady Rams took a 42-point lead – the largest of the night – with no starters on the court. All 13 active players scored for the Lady Rams, outscoring the HT bench 38-13.

Another telling stat was the 50-percent shooting night from the field for TXWES, along with the +38 in points in the paint.

Whorley led all players with 17 points, a season high, on 6 of 9 shooting – while also tacking on seven assists and six rebounds in the blowout.

Zarria Carter added 15 point, seven boards and five steals for the Lady Rams.

The team will travel to NCAA DI Houston Baptist to play the Huskies in an exhibition game at Sharp Gym in Houston on Tuesday, Nov. 16 at 6 p.m. The Lady Rams will come back home for the Sooner Athletic Conference opener on Thursday, Nov. 18 against SAGU. That game scheduled for a 6 p.m. start.
