The Texas Wesleyan Rams football team has enjoyed a historic season. However, Saturday they suffered a setback in their lone non-conference contest of the season, falling 63-3 at Central Arkansas.
Â
The Bears compete at the NCAA Division I Football Championship Subdivision (formerly Division I-AA) level. The Rams are in the NAIA.
          Â
The Rams avoided the shutout when
Daniel Trejo kicked a 24-yard field goal with 7:03 remaining in the game.
          Â
Despite Saturday's loss, Texas Wesleyan is 6-3 this football season, including 6-2 in the Sooner Athletic Conference. They have clinched their first winning season since reinstating the program in 2016.
          Â
The Rams used two quarterbacks against UCA.
Carson Rodgers was 7-for-10 for 87 yards with an interception and

          Â
Collier Ricks led all receivers with three catches for 58 yards.
Brandon Rolfe hauled in two passes for 41 and Cameron Chapman had two receptions for 41 yards.
Â

Â
The Rams will end the season (barring an at-large playoff berth) at Lyon College in Batesville, Ark. Saturday at 2 p.m. The Scots (2-7 overall, 2-6 in SAC) are coming off a 35-33 victory against Louisiana College.
Â
The Scots lead the series against the Rams 2-1 with all three games being close. In 2017 and 2019 Lyon won at home 21-14 and 53-45. In 2018 in Fort Worth Texas Wesleyan won 21-20. The teams did not play in 2020 because of COVID-19.
