FORT WORTH, Texas —
Jose Sosa hit a walk-off single in the bottom of the ninth to lift the Rams baseball team over No. 21 Oklahoma City 11-10 in the series finale on Saturday afternoon at Sycamore Park.
Â
The Rams entered the bottom of the ninth down two runs but plated three on three straight singles with two outs to win the game 11-10.
Â
It was a huge and hard-fought win for the Rams who dropped both games of the doubleheader (12-7, 19-7) the previous day to the Stars.
Â
The Stars struck first in the first scoring two on a double. In the bottom,
Marcos Sanchez RBI singled, but OCU solo homered in the second to keep ahead two runs. That would be the only runs for OCU until the sixth inning as TXWES kept them scoreless in the third through fifth frames while jumping ahead 7-3.
With two outs in the bottom of the second, the Rams reached and scored on a failed fielder's choice by the OCU shortstop. Then Sanchez doubled home two more runs. OCU went down in order in the third while TXWES added three insurance runs including a
Greyson Barrett solo home run.
Â
The sixth inning saw OCU find the scoreboard again after hitting back-to-back homers to start the frame. They got two RBI singles to tie the game back at seven all until
Nelson Vera solo homered in the bottom for the 8-7 advantage.
Â
OCU took the lead back in the seventh plating three for the 10-8 edge. With nothing doing in the eighth frame, the Stars began the ninth with a double and then advanced to third on a wild pitch. Next play TXWES'
Kaden Brown checked the runner on third and got the groundout play throwing to first. Then OCU hit a fly ball to right field where Sanchez caught it and threw a rocket to catcher Vera who tagged out the runner for the double play.
Â
It gave the Rams momentum going into the bottom of the frame down two runs. Barrett singled in between two outs and
Carson Cheaney came in to pinch run.
Ryne Randle was hit by a pitch putting runners on the corners.
Â
With two out and both dugouts on their feet,
Joseph Barfield singled home Cheaney. On a 2-2 count, Brown singled home Randle and advanced to second with Barfield on third. Next up, Sosa powered a ball through the middle scoring Barfield for the walk-off victory and was surrounded by his team in celebration as he rounded first base.
Â
Jalen Evans picked up his first win on the mound after appearing in the seventh. He pitched 2.1 innings allowing 2 hits while walking one and striking out one.
Morgan McCloud started the game with
Luis Lopez-Valdez and
Garrett Moltzan appearing in relief.
Â
In the overall series, Brown had 6 hits and 1 RBI. Sanchez batted 3 for 4 with a double and 3 RBI. Barrett recorded 3 hits two on homers and 3 RBI. Barfield had 4 hits including a double for 2 RBI. Sosa 5 hits, 5 RBI a double and stolen base. Vera 3 hits, two doubles and a home run for 3 RBI.
Tyriece Silas 5 hits, a double and homer for 3 RBI. Kevin Santiago in game one went 3 for 4 with a double.
Â
The win takes TXWES to 10-8 overall and 2-4 in the Sooner Athletic Conference. OCU is now 14-10 and 5-1 in the league.
Â
The Rams stay home for their next game as they host UT Dallas on March 23 at Sycamore Park.
