FORT WORTH, Texas —
Savanna Barron hauled in four goals in the Lady Rams' 4-1 win over Central Christian College (Kan.) on Wednesday at Martin Field.
Two games ago, the Lady Rams beat Wayland Baptist on the road 5-2 behind four goals by
Danielle Trought. This match was all Barron who bested her single game scoring high by one goal. In 2019, she scored three goals in one match versus Texas College.
The forward from North Richland Hills has 7 goals total this season and 16 total in a Rams' uniform.
Head coach
Josh Gibbs said he is very impressed with his team's ability to stick together and fight in the face of adversity, especially during what has been a crazy year.
"We have special players seize the moment when it calls," Gibbs said. "Dani (Trought) at Wayland last week, and tonight Savanna took over. Incredible performance. We were great all over the field."
It was the last regular season home match, and the Lady Rams honored two seniors for their contributions to the program in
Sara Gomez and
Lindsey Beckrich. Gomez had a block during the game and Beckrich an assist.
"I loved seeing such brilliant performances from our two seniors," Gibbs added. "They earned it and deserve it. I'm so proud of them, and incredibly honored to be their coach."
Trought assisted two of the goals during the match, and Beckrich assisted on the hat trick play. Keeper
Julia Villalobos had five saves, all in the first half.
The win brings the Lady Rams to 5-2 overall with the same record in the Sooner Athletic Conference. CCCK moves to 7-9 overall and 2-6 in the league.
The Lady Rams close out their final two regular season matches on the road starting at John Brown on March 27 and then SAGU on March 30.
