WAXAHACHIE, Texas — The Texas Wesleyan Men's Soccer team closed out the season with a 3-1 win at Southwestern Assemblies of God on Tuesday evening.
Â
"I'm proud of the guys and how they continued to battle throughout the game," said head coach
Cole Sweetser. "After a back and forth first half where we weren't playing our best, they came out and played well in the second half and took control of the game to get the result."
Â
The Rams scored the first goal of the match in the 24
th minute with
Mateja Jovanovic getting his eighth goal of the season assisted by
Rylen Sibley. 20 seconds later, the Lions tied the game with a goal of their own.
Â
In the 79
th minute, Sibley broke the tie assisted by Parez Bromfield. In TXWES previous match at John Brown, Sibley ripped the ball under the crossbar from eight yards out for his first goal of the season.
Â
The 86
th minute saw
Jovanni Angon put TXWES up 3-1 on a goal assisted by
Robinson Mugisha.
Â
"It's great to see Rylen finding the back of the net in the last couple of games," Sweetser said.  "He's a versatile player that has had to play in the back more than we'd like this spring.Â
Â
"It was also great to see Jovanni get on the score sheet with all the hard work he does in the midfield. With another freshman scoring in Mateja, we're very excited for the future. With the guys already in the program coming off injury for the next year and the new guys we have joining us, we can't wait to get back to work."
Â
The Rams finish the season 3-10-2 overall and 1-7-1 in the Sooner Athletic Conference.
