Rams fall at #12 SAGU

Box Score WAXAHACHIE-- The Texas Wesleyan men's basketball team (15-5, 8-4 SAC) lost a conference matchup 88-68 against SouthWestern Assemblies of God University (14-3, 12-1) on the road on Thursday evening.

The Rams scored the first points of the game with a nifty layup by Davon Berry. It was hard for TXWES to get easy baskets as SAGU stifled them defensively. The Rams committed 21 turnovers and the Lions committed 9 turnovers.

The Rams out re-bounded the Lions 44 to 35, but the Lions electric night from the three-point line proved to be the difference on the night. SAGU shot 12 of 27 (44 percent) from the three-point line and 31 of 68 from the field (45 percent.)

TXWES cut the deficit to 50-41 with 15:27 left in the game after a made layup by Kristian Lafayette that gave the Rams some momentum. The Lions called a timeout and then scored 8 straight points to extend the lead back to 17 points.

TXWES was not able to overcome the efficient shooting night of SAGU. The Rams shot 22 of 60 from the field (36 percent,) and 2 of 14 from beyond the arc (14 percent.) The Lions bench outscored the Rams bench 31 to 12.

The Rams had four players score in double figures. Senior Vydal Bradford scored 19 points, junior Kristian Lafayette scored 14 points, senior Davon Berry scored 13 points, and junior Lamine Komara scored 10 points.

TXWES moved to 18-13 all-time against SAGU. The Rams will hit the road to Dallas on Saturday for a matchup against UNT-Dallas at 3:45 p.m.
