Box Score WAXAHACHIE-- The Texas Wesleyan women's basketball team (16-2, 10-2 SAC) overcame a 12 point deficit to defeat SouthWestern Assemblies of God University (7-12, 3-7) 87-74 on Thursday evening.
The Lady Rams started the game on a 5-0 run as
Makayla Coy attacked the rim for a three-point play and a layup on back-to-back possessions. TXWES cooled off offensively as they went the last 5:32 of the first quarter without a basket. The Lions shot 4 of 8 from the three-point line and 5 of 5 from the free-throw line in the first quarter. SAGU ended the first quarter on a 14-0 run. The Lady Rams scored 5 of their 13 first quarter points from the free-throw line. SAGU led 27-13 after one quarter of play.

Hailee Walls off the bench as she ended the scoring drought of over 6 minutes for TXWES with 4 straight points.
Zarria Carter made two baskets in a row to pull the Lady Rams within 8 points as SAGU led 32-24 with 5:57 left in the second quarter.Â
The Lions were able to build a 12 point lead with 4 minutes left in the second quarter. TXWES was able to cut the deficit to 6 points after senior
Tianna Tullis scored a tough layup with 3:17 left in the first half. SAGU did not give up any ground as they responded by extending the lead back to 12. After one half of play, the Lady Rams trailed 46 to 34.
The Lady Rams ramped up the energy in the third quarter with a 12 to 3 scoring run to start the third quarter. Junior
Kertisa Amos started the run with 8 points and 2 steals.
Zarria Carter soared to the basket for two straight layups to cap off the electric run that turned the momentum in favor of the Lady Rams. After TXWES cut the deficit to 3 points, the Lions were able to extend the lead to 58-51 with 3:03 left in the third quarter. Â
The Lady Rams ended the third quarter on a 7-0 run with a mid-range jump shot by senior
Lindsey Thorpe, a three-pointer by freshman Quinnae Love, and a late baseline jump shot by
Kertisa Amos to tie the game at 58 after three quarters of play.
The duo of Carter and Amos proved to be clutch for the Lady Rams in the fourth quarter as they combined for 24 points in the last 10 minutes of the game.
The Lady Rams overcame several double-digit deficits with tough defense and tenacious rebounding. TXWES outre-bounded SAGU 61 to 35 and also recorded 11 steals and 31 offensive rebounds on the night.Â
TXWES had three players score in double figures.
Zarria Carter recorded her 9th double-double of the season with 24 points and 12 rebounds,
Makayla Coy also recorded a double-double with 11 points, and
Kertisa Amos recorded a game high 25 points and 8 rebounds. Amos also made 13 of her 16 free-throw attempts.
The Lady Rams shot 27 of 34 (79 percent) from the free-throw line, which proved to be vital in completing their comeback win.Â
The Lady Rams move to 12-9 all-time against SAGU. TXWES will continue their road trip as they take on UNT-Dallas at 2 p.m. on Saturday, Jan. 22.
