FORT WORTH-- The Texas Wesleyan mens baseball team (2-0) defeated Wiley College (0-2) in both games of a doubleheader by a combined score of 40-1 in the two games played on Saturday afternoon at Sycamore Park.
The Rams bats were electric as they had 32 total hits as a team in 2 games. TXWES flexed their power with 6 home runs on the afternoon.
The pitching staff was just as good, limiting the Wildcats to just 2 hits on the day and securing a no-hitter in game two despite allowing a run on a sacrifice fly. The last time the Rams achieved a no-hit performance was on Feb. 28, 2014 in a 10-0 win at MACU. Mitch McLeod earned the no-no in seven innings of work.Â
In Game 1 the Rams were provided offensive firepower from catcher
Carson Cheaney as he went 3 for 5 with 6 RBI's and a homerun blast.
Greyson Barrett blasted a three-run homerun in the first inning.
Marcos Sanchez went 2 for 3 with 1 RBI and a walk.
The Rams got a strong pitching performance from the opening day starter
Garrett Moltzan, who pitched 4 innings and struck 6 batters out and only allowed 1 hit and gave up no runs. Brayden Mcalister had a strong performance in relief as he completed the shutout by pitching the last three innings and striking 2 batters out.
In Game 2,
Tomas Sanchez brought the thunder with his bat as he went 3 for 5 with a homerun and 3 RBI's on the afternoon.
Joseph Barfield and
Trey Erwin each hit a homerun.
Cory Didier pitched 4 innings, recorded 8 strikeouts, and gave up 1 earned run.
David Theriot pitched a flawless inning in relief giving up no runs.
Raul Aragon finished the last 2 innings of the game with 2 strikeouts and gave up no earned runs.
The Rams moved to 12-1 all-time against Wiley College. The Rams will finish their four game series with Wiley College tomorrow with another doubleheader at 12 and 2:30 at Sycamore Park.
