The Rams beat Langston University handily in three sets 25-10, 25-12, 25-6 to move to 10-1 in SAC play and 16-3 overall.
Texas Wesleyan had 33 kills overall to Langston's 16 with a blistering kill percentage of .400 in the match.Â
In set one, Langston kept the game close with two separate runs to tie the game at 3-3 then again at 7-7. But after that, it was all Rams behind the hot hand of
Carly Unruh, who had three service aces, and
Sydney Alexander, who ended the game with eight kills. The Rams were able to jump ahead to an 18-7 lead before Langston got back into the game briefly.
Sydney Charlton and
Lauran Richards joined in the attack as she scored the last point of the game with an assist from
Andrea Malek. The Rams won 25-10.
The second set saw the Rams jump out to a quick 7-2 lead, again with strong net play from Alexander and blocking by Alexander and Charlton. The Lions weren't able to contend with Texas Wesleyan's balanced offense and strong serving. The Rams had 11 service aces in the game overall with several of those aces coming in the second set. Alexander finished the set with a kill, assisted by
Ruby O'Brien, that gave the Rams a 25-12 win.
In the third set, the Rams reeled off six unanswered points before the Lions scored. From there it was an additional nine unanswered before Langston scored again. The Lions were only able to manage six points in the third set as Texas Wesleyan rolled to a 25-6 victory and a three set sweep of the Lions.
Richards led all players with 10 kills. Alexander had eight kills, and
Kendal King had seven kills. O'Brien chalked up another stellar game for the Rams with 26 assists, five digs and three service aces.Â
Texas Wesleyan travels to Central Christian College of Kansas on Saturday, Oct. 8, for an 11 a.m. game. The Rams have faced the Tigers 10 times and have won every match. The game will conclude Texas Wesleyan's road weekend for the Rams, who are still in second place in SAC.
