Texas Wesleyan outplayed the Drovers on all fronts with 41 kills to the Drovers 24, 7 blocks to the Drovers 2, and 60 digs to the Drovers 38 for the 25-19, 25-18, 25-8 sweep on the road.
In set one, the Rams jumped out to a 7-1 lead before Oklahoma Panhandle got back into the game. The Drovers were able to capitalize on Texas Wesleyan attack errors and Drover kills to even the score at 8-8. From there, it was back-and-forth with Oklahoma Panhandle tying the game three more times before the Rams' balanced offensive front took control for a 25-19 win.
The second set saw the Drovers come out swinging as they kept the game close in the first few minutes, but four unanswered points after a 7-7 tie was all the Ram offense needed to get back on track. Once again, the balanced attacking offense was too much for the Drovers to handle, and Texas Wesleyan took the second set 25-18.
In the third set, the Rams jump out to a quick 19-2 lead, again with the balanced attack of
Lauran Richards,
Kendal King and
Sydney Charlton. The Drovers were only able to muster points from Texas Wesleyan errors to give the Rams a 25-8 win and the three-set sweep of the Drovers.
Richards led all players with 10 kills.
Kendal King had eight kills, and Charlton had seven kills and two blocks.
Grace Pavelka had three blocks leading all players.
Ruby O'Brien had 20 assists, and
Andrea Malek brought the defense for the Rams with 25 digs in the game, leading all players.
Texas Wesleyan travels to Wayland Baptist University on Saturday, Oct. 15. The Rams have faced the Pioneers 14 times and hold a 17-12 edge, winning the last 14 meetings. The game will conclude Texas Wesleyan's road weekend for the Rams, who are still in second place in SAC.
