WSOC: Lady Rams take 1-0 win to even conference record at 1-1

The Lady Rams got their first conference win on the road with a 1-0 victory over Southwestern Christian University Saturday.
 
This puts Texas Wesleyan at 1-1-0 in SAC play and 3-6-0 overall. 
 
The Lady Rams started off slow in the first period as the Lady Eagles came out shooting, but Southwestern shot wide and high. Texas Wesleyan goalie Alex Ortiz also recorded three of her five saves in the first 30 minutes of play to keep the score at 0-0. 
 
Texas Wesleyan only got off four shots in the first period and had one corner kick, but the Lady Rams were unable to capitalize on their opportunities as both teams went into the half scoreless.
 
In the second period, the Lady Rams' offense came to life with three shots within the first five minutes. A Southwestern Christian save on a Lindsay Daugherty shot was quickly followed by a Danica Kunschik shot that was assisted by Mychaela Lott giving Texas Wesleyan the first goal of the game at 50:43 in the second period. 
 
Southwestern goalie Celeste Lucio kept the score at 1-0 with five saves as Tameir Grosvenor, Mikayla Trevino, Kathyana Jasso and Lott continued to hammer away at the Lady Eagles with five shots on goal in the second half of the second period.
 
Texas Wesleyan's Ortiz saved the game for the Lady Rams with a last-minute stop on goal at 88:41 in the game, giving the Lady Rams the 1-0 win.
 
The win evens the Lady Rams SAC record at 1-1. 
 
The Lady Rams host the University of Science and Arts of Oklahoma on Oct. 4 at Martin Field. Texas Wesleyan holds a 2-10-2 record against the Drovers.
