The Texas Wesleyan Rams (9-2, 7-2 SAC) faced off against the Lyon College Scots (1-9, 0-9 SAC) Saturday in Fort Worth, Texas, at Farrington Field, for their fifth-ever meetup in conference play.
TXWES become SAC Conference champions with a victory over Lyon College, 64-21.
RB Ernie Ceasar gives the Rams an early lead with a 67-yard rushing touchdown for the game's first play. Including the 2-point conversion by TE "Cam" Chapman, the Rams now lead with a score of 8-0.
After the retaliation from the Scots, the Rams struggled to score for the remainder of the first quarter.
After the Scots' fourth punt, Ceasar connected with WR Charlie Simmons on a trick play for a 10-yard passing touchdown, making the score 15-15.
QB Carson Rodgers and the offense pushed down the field for an 11-play drive for 55 yards, capping the drive with a rushing touchdown by Rodgers for a yard out, giving the Rams the lead at 21-15 before halftime.
The Scots scored on their first possession of the 3rd quarter, tying the game at 21-21 after a failed extra-point attempt. Price returned the ensuing kickoff 83-yard for a touchdown. It gave Price three games in a row with a kick returned for a touchdown and his fourth return for a touchdown on the season. After a 2-point conversion by Chapman, the Rams extend their lead to 29-21.
On the next drive, FS Elijah Hall intercepted a pass attempt on the drive's first play. After the turnover, TXWES was able to capitalize on the turnover when Rodgers connected with WR "PJ" Williams for a 49-yard touchdown pass, including a 2-point conversion by Pettway, and the Rams extended their lead to 37-21.
After the Rams' defense forced a turnover, Ernie was able to cap a four-play drive with a 10-yard rushing touchdown. K Gerrit Blodgett was good for the extra point extending the TXWES lead to 44-21 through the end of the 3rd quarter.
In the 4th quarter, backup QB Cole Francis completed a 35-yard passing touchdown to WR Brandon Rolfe after the Rams' defense forced another Lyon punt, with the extra point blocked by Lyon.
Following a Rams' touchdown, LB Jose Bonilla collected an interception, returning it for a 40-yard touchdown. Blodgett would connect on the extra point. It gave the Rams a 57-21 lead.
On the next TXWES drive, Lyon forced the Rams to punt. The punt was muffed and picked up by DB Jamarrion "Jay" Reed. RB Ty Williams then capitalized on the turnover with a 4-yard rushing touchdown ending a three-play 18-yard dive for the Rams to secure a share of the SAC Conference title, with the Rams' last game of the season-ending 64-21.
Carson finished with 154 passing yards on 13-21 and 38 rushing yards on five attempts, including one rushing and passing touchdown. Most of the receptions went to wide receivers Alize Thomas on five catches for 61 yards, "PJ" Williams had 61 yards on three receptions and one touchdown, Brandon Rolfe had three receptions for 54 yards and one touchdown, and Simmons had two receptions for 15 yards and one touchdown.
Ceasar led the rushing game for the Rams' offense finishing with 148 rushing yards on 13 attempts and two rushing touchdowns.
Ty Williams finished with 45 yards on nine attempts and one rushing touchdown. Carson finished with 38 yards on five attempts and one rushing touchdown.
Defensive backs Vondrice LaFrance and "Jay" Reed led the defense with eight solo tackles a piece, LB Dylan Pettway with seven tackles, and DL Sir Hill with six solo tackles.
Elijah Hall and Bonilla had the only interceptions for the defense, with Bonilla scoring on his return.
