TXWES Women's Basketball (1-0) opened the season Wednesday night against Huston-Tillotson University (0-1) in the Sid Richardson Center with their first win of the season.

The Lady Rams took a 40-33 lead into halftime while holding Huston Tillotson to only making two three-pointers in the first two quarters. TXWES dominated the glass with a 21-13 advantage over Huston Tillotson in the rebounding war. The returning SAC New Comer of the Year - Kertisa Amos, helped push the pace and tempo of the game with three steals in the first half, which helped hold Huston Tillotson to only 13 points in the second quarter.

Huston Tillotson would not go away quietly as Bre'Auna Smith paced their team by contributing 12 points and 7 rebounds in the opening half. Mycah McDonald also chipped in 9 points in the first half, helping her team stay within reach.

TXWES Lady Rams started the second half with two defensive stops, including a steal from two-time SAC All-Conference player - Makayla Coy. They continued to push the tempo and stay aggressive, eventually getting to the free throw line where the SAC Freshman of the Year - Zarria Carter and Zionna Barbee, were able to sink both shots.

Huston Tillotson came down on the following possession, and their post-play got an easy offensive rebound and put it back under the basket. Back-to-back steals from Amos helped the Lady Rams stay in front of Huston Tillotson. Their full-court pressure helped them push the momentum and earn some easy baskets on their steals.

Coy led the attack in the third quarter with three steals and eight points to stretch the lead to 16 points over Huston Tillotson. TXWES scored the most points in the third quarter, with 29 points, primarily fueled by their defense.

Irish Winn gave Huston Tillotson one final push in the closing fourth quarter with 7 points, but it was not enough to overcome the deficit. Amos contributed 8 points and 4 rebounds in the final 10 minutes of the game.

Three of the Lady Rams finished the game in double figures. Makayla Coy scored 22 points on 7-13 shooting from the field. Kertisa Amos scored 18 points and had a game-high of 6 steals. Zarria Carter scored 10 points on 4-9 shooting and 6 rebounds.
